The Challenge - Management of a large Metropolitan Area Network (MAN)
A client with a large metropolitan area network needed a way to proctively monitor their network, manage the critical systems and be alerted to potential problems before they affected network performance. Managing a network spanning 26 facilities with over 35 servers running various Operating Systems and the 100's of networking devices required to connect all of the systems is a daunting task for any Network Administrator. Add to this the thousands (approximately 3500 at last count) of computers and hundreds of printers, handhelds and other devices consuming network resources and introducing potential security risks (Virus', SpyWare, etc...) and the task of managing the network environment is compunded exponentially. The Solution - Soltech Technology Solutions Remote Management & Monitoring Service (RMMS) Soltech's Network Administration services include support for Novell Netware, Microsoft Windows Server, MAC OS and Linux Network Operating Systems as well as Network Infrastructure Management for Routers, Switches, Wireless Networking Devices and more.
Soltech has provided this customer with the selection and installation of a network monitoring application to proactively monitor thousands of critical network devices 24X7. This application has been configured to alert the on-site Network Administrator as well as remote Soltech Engineers to potential problems. The system also provides asset tracking capabilities for the managed network devices. In addition a "Help Desk" system was implemeted to assist in the reporting of end-user problems and provides the ability to track and report on the types of problems being experienced and time to resolution. Soltech remotely manages the systems and performs routine updates and service pack installations to ensure that the environment is protected from the latest security threats and vulnerabilities. The Critical Systems are monitored and reported on a daily basis alerting the Network Administrator to any abnormal events that may be occuring on the network so that they can be resolved quickly.
